Recently I was fortunate enough to watch the Round 16 Spain vs Portugal World Cup game in my own home town. My first experience ever watching a live professional football match and certainly my first time ever watching a live World Cup game.
The size of the stadium, the people, the sites and the sounds is just too unreal for words. It's hard to explain the awesomeness of it all.
The drive to the stadium at 5.30pm was smooth and traffic-free. We parked at the CTICC (on the outskirts of Cape Town CBD) and walked only a few kilometres to the V&A Waterfront. With two hours to kill before kick off, dad and I enjoyed a good meal at the waterfront before heading off to the game.
We queued at security for a couple of minutes where we were surrounded by loud, ecstatic and very patriotic Spanish and Portuguese fans. They screamed, they shouted, they danced and they sang. All in anticipation and preparation for the big game.
Once we were through, it was a pleasant and spacious walk from the security point to the stadium. The stadium is HUGE and the check through point where your ticket is scanned is quick and effortless. But nothing quite compares to your first glimpse of the field when you step through one of the many entrances and see nothing but rows and rows of red & yellow fans engulfing the magnificent green field laden with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres and David Villa.
It is AWESOME!
We had a brief walk around the stadium and bought Budweiser's to drink, before taking our seats. We sat in block 111 (tier 1), row 7th from the front. It was amazing!! So incredible to be sitting there, just two people in a crowd of 65 000 excited, happy, vuvuzela blowing fans.
The game was great and our seats were fantastic. I really can't sum up the awesomeness of it all. It still seems to unreal for words.
