Warm Welcome

It’s so incredible to see a group of people get together and accomplish a unified goal.

Winter has certainly arrived in Cape Town, with a vengeance. It is cold and wet and even snow could be seen on Table Mountain this morning.

So what better way to give back to the community, than by offering warm sleeping bags to keep the homeless people protected and sheltered from the cold.

The northern suburbs connect groups of Hillsong Church Cape Town, got together this evening and worked hard to make sleeping bags out of black bags and newspaper. It’s a simple task and only requires a bit of planning, structure and team work.

You simply place an industrial black bag flat on a smooth surface. Line the one side of the bag with a few layers of newspaper, taped into place. You then line the other side, same as before.
Seal the sides and bottom edges. Then insert this lined bag into another bag, overturn the top fold and stick down. That’s it. A perfect, thickly lined, warm sleeping bag.

It’s so easy & as a team of 4-5 people, it takes about 20minutes to make one sleeping bag. You just need to work out a system that works best for your team.

As a church we are aiming at having made 250 sleeping bags by Sunday and I think we are not far off. With Hillsong Cape Town turning 2 years old this Sunday, the sleeping bags will be distributed to sheltars in and around Cape Town within the upcoming week.

What an achievement and how rewarding to be a part of it. :)
