So travelling on London's public transport is awesome, but if your journey is long, it's nice to have something to do while in transit. Fortunately there is so much available one seldom has to worry about getting bored.
For starters, everyone who travels during rush hour has an ipod (well, just about everyone). Most commuters tend to plug in their tunes and keep to themselves on the train or tube during rush hour. Hardly anyone speaks. Most people are either using their phones (to check their emails, search playlists, browse the internet or network on social media sites) or reading.
Fortunately with technology today, one can call and email and browse at the simple click of a button on a mobile device, commuters can be working before even officially getting to work.
On another note, if you like to read while travelling, there are so many options available. For starters, every morning a free newspaper called Metro (http://www.metro.co.uk/) is accessable and every evening the London Evening Standard (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard) is offered to all commuters to help themselves to. These publications are full of latest news, updates, weather forecasts, gossip and entertainment. Every Monday an SA / NZ / Aussie publication is on offer for all who are interested. It's called the TNT Magazine, http://www.tntmagazine.com/ . Every Wednesday is the Stylist Magazine for fashionistas, http://www.stylist.co.uk/ . Shortlist (http://www.shortlist.com/) comes out every Thursday with Sport Magazine (http://www.sport-magazine.co.uk/) and ES Magazine available every Friday.
For SAFA's like myself there is also a weekly newspaper called The South African (http://london.thesouthafrican.com/) and a monthly magazine called SA Times (http://southafricantimes.co.uk/).
So whether you're in to music, reading or your phone, there is pretty much something for everyone.
