A friend of mine is part of the DA Young Leaders. It is a programme that trains and develops young adults into becoming the future leaders of South Africa.Daniella is much more politically minded than I, I'm not so interested in politics, but I admire her as she is passionate about what she does and she is driven to make a difference in our country.
A few weeks ago she was assigned a project and she pulled together some of her friends to assist in turning her dream into a reality.
Her goal:
To empower and educate the youth by encouraging them to take their future into their own hands.
She selected a High School in a near by area and chose to host a Career Empowerment Workshop at the school for one day and offer the kids an opportunity to learn about various industries and institutions.
With most of the project team members having PR experience, we used our contacts and expertise to organise the best Career Empowerment Workshop yet.
We organised various speakers from different industries to come and chat about what they do. To share how they got there & what options are available. We also organised various academic institutions to be present at the workshop and share the courses they offer with the students.
It was an awesome way to open up the minds of the students, educate them about the choices available to them and essentially plant a seed that will encourage them to go out and investigate what it is they want to do with their lives.
It was such a successful project. The outcome was positive and the media coverage was awesome too.
It was great to be a part of such an event and very rewarding seeing it all come together.
