One of the wonderful things about summer in London is the festivals. There seem to be so many, from music and food to song and dance.Having only arrived in London in August I missed many of them but I had arrived in time to enjoy the last one of the season, The Thames Festival.
This one, as the name describes takes place along the Thames River celebrating London and its River. It’s a free festival that takes place every September and is the largest free outdoors Arts Festival. It takes place on the walkways, road bridges, docks and within the public open spaces from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge and beyond.
The festival ‘commissions new work and transforms unusual spaces on and around the River Thames’. It hosts a jam-packed programme and involves a mixture of street arts, performances, pyrotechnics, exhibitions, river events, choirs, circus, music, dance, foods and feasting.
The highlight for me was all the food stalls (of course the food!!) and in particular the feasting table that stretches from one side of the bridge to the other. What a clever idea :) And my favourite was the Brazilian Churros, a freshly fried pastry filled half with caramel and half with chocolate sauce. The Festival concludes with a magical finale of a night carnival and fireworks display. It’s awesome!
