When Avatar launched in 2009, it was a huge success. It was one of those films that everyone wanted to see. In Cape Town it was a huge craze, people seemed to be buying tickets for shows weeks in advance and if you weren’t one of those lucky one’s to get tickets, you missed out.
Sadly I was one of those unlucky one’s. I didn’t get to see it the on it’s first release, but fortunately due to popular demand they re-released it on the big screen and lucky for me, this was shortly after I arrived in London. So what better way to see this ever-popular film on the big screen but on the biggest big screen – the BFI Imax.
The BFI Imax is a 500 seater large-format cinema with the UK’s biggest cinema screen. The screen is more than 20 metres high, which is the equivalent to the height of five double-decker buses.
Being that Avatar was a 3D film, it was pretty cool to wear those massive blue 3D glasses and watch the film on a screen that size. If you’re going to see Avatar, Imax in 3D is the way to do it. It’s super cool and definitely worth doing again. :)
